Are You Happy?

Make changes to be Happier in Life and at Work.

WHY DOES HAPPINESS MATTER?  Let’s see what Steve Jobs has to say…

Do what you love

In 2005, Steve Jobs told Stanford University’s graduating class that the secret to success is having “the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” Inside, he suggested, you “already know what you truly want to become.” Jobs has followed his heart his entire career, and that passion, he says, has made all the difference. It’s very difficult to come up with new, creative ideas that move society forward if you are not passionate about the subject. “I think you should go get a job as a busboy or something until you find something you’re really passionate about,” Jobs once said. “I’m convinced that about half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the non successful ones is pure perseverance. . . Unless you have a lot of passion about this, you’re not going to survive. You’re going to give up.” How do you find your passion? Passions are those ideas that don’t leave you alone. They are the hopes, dreams and possibilities that consume your thoughts. Follow those passions despite skeptics and naysayers, who do not have the courage to follow their dreams.

HOW DO I BECOME HAPPIER?  Leverage this very complex happiness model

DOES THE MODEL ACTUALLY WORK?

A good friend of mine – Ozant Kamaci was formally a Director at PepiCo in the Middle East.  After asking himself this question he subsequently left a corporate career of thirteen years to follow his passion for photography.  He now has an MA Communication Design degree with Photography pathway from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London, UK and has exhibited his work in London, Dubai, Istanbul, San Diego, Paris and Toronto. Özant is currently living in Toronto, Canada and teaching photography at OCAD University.  Visit him at www.ozant .com

But this isn’t just about taking 180 degree turns in life – there are small changes that one can make.  I love my career at SW+A but I’m always striving for happiness and thankfully we have a culture of “being the author of our own career” which is why I’m fueling my love of creative writing by being a part of our blog team…and I can assure you – I’m happier for it!  So try the model – make tomorrow a happier day!

Nice work Manoj! I couldn’t agree more with the model. Unfortunately the barriers that we all perceive to be in front of us get in the way, but if we can get beyond them the world is a pretty amazing place…and is pretty amazing at making our wishes come true! Glad you are enjoying the Blog world. Look forward to continuing to follow along! Cheers, Pete

Thanks Pete.  I feel like this topic may deserve a few editions.  I think your point about perceived barriers is a good one.  I also think there could be topics around how to pick the areas you want to change, and how to set goals.  Thanks for the food for thought.  Let me know if you’d like to link up on a future blog topic around the customer…
