Lessons from our fundraising campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
By Amber Hudson and Luke Sklar
It’s pretty magical what happens when you unite people under a common cause.
Back in the summer we kicked off our fundraising campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I tell ya, the energy, creativity and passion this team brought to cause marketing was nothing short of phenominal. From bake sales to silent auctions, Tardy Toonie (had to cough up $2 each time you were late to a meeting), Jargon Police (criminal use of jargon? Busted…you owe $2), internal wagers and of course the donations made by our wonderful friends, family and clients, our clear vision and common focus helped us raise just shy of $30,000.
Last night SW+A got together to take part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Light the Night walk. We shed our inhibitions, swallowed a little pride and sang a team karaoke in front of thousands of fellow walkers (and I would walk 500 miles just to be the…sing it with me now!).
Everything truly is marketing, even when you’re supporting a cause close to your heart. Here’s what made it such a success:
- Vision! Purpose! A Common Goal!
- Clear accountability
- Established key milestones
- Fun, engaging programs that anyone could take part in
- Had an incredible team of cheerleaders to keep us going
It was the antithesis of whipping something together and hoping that it works. In a world where people are giving less and apathy is growing, we pulled off something truly amazing.
