People, trends are no basis for investing in a business. if several truck operations in major US cities are popular, it doesn't mean that they are profitable or that Caplansky can make it work in Toronto. There is simply no connection. Worse yet, the resto lost money even with an outstanding product and seemingly high revenue. They gave him the right advice by asking him to focus on his current business and making money there before expanding. Caplansky's prospects look good, so the prudent path is to bank some money and use that to grow. On the other hand, asking for a very high valuation for a money losing operation still generates publicity with little chance of actually getting a deal. Just sayin.

Jeanie...not only are you a star at this, but your reports are insightful and make it fun. Thanks for all that you've brought to the Web/Blog team. We are better off because of it.

Thanks Manoj. Other insights on the 'why' of this can be found in this article on happiness. it shows that talking to someone about negative things can help you to deal with it and return to happiness more quickly. Is this the insight underneath office bitch sessions? http://www.pickthebrain.com/blog/how-to-be-intentionally-happy/

all the more reason for us to migrate out of the office as a group more often. birthdays are a good excuse to go for drinks and chat. I think the best bonds form when you take the group out of the office and into a social space with NO work talk. (maybe a thirsty thursday with rotating location?)
